Reshaping Leadership Through Meaningful Conversations
FEBRUARY 2021 NEWSLETTER
Coming out of 2020, many lessons are reshaping leadership. Almost every leader has evolved how they engage, interact with, and support their teams. There's more opportunity and a greater need for 1-on-1 engagement, there's a need to recognize that many still struggle with demands of blended work and home life, and that our collective racial injustice reckoning will continue to be an essential effort. A recent study from The Society for Human Resource Management's (SHRM) found that almost half of Black HR professionals (47 percent) said they do not feel safe voicing their opinions about racial justice issues in the workplace, while only a little more than one-quarter of white HR professionals (28 percent) say the same. Black and white workers generally agreed, however, that discussions about race can be uncomfortable.
How can we make progress? How can we equip leaders with the tools to initiate and support honest and safe conversations about difficult topics like race, bias, employee health and well-being? While we don't have all the answers, we want to share several resources from our community to help you on this journey.
